HUMBLE BEGINNING
25 years ago, this was the doctor’s bag I used when I began my practice as an Audiologist and established The Hearing Clinic.
I am an extremely neat and organized person. I make an effort daily to ensure that my environment, both home and work are clutter-free. I purge unused, old and non-functional items on a regular basis. I even have dedicated bins for items to donate, discard and keep. I rarely keep items that are no longer functional with the exception of one, my doctor’s bag.
Twenty five years ago, when I began my career as an Audiologist, the first item I bought was a doctor’s bag. It was a big bag for my petite frame, made of faux leather. But it has different compartments to put ear impressions, earblocks, otoscopes and other supplies. It was truly utilitarian. Exactly what I needed.
My doctor’s bag kept me organized as I traveled from school to school, clinic to clinic to provide audiological services. I did this for years. But in the back of my mind, I fervently hoped that the day would come that I would no longer have to travel with my doctor’s bag and own my own clinic.
That day finally came. Thanks to hard work, dedication, perseverance and faith. After 25 years, I still have my doctor’s bag. Tucked neatly in a cabinet, in pristine condition. Every now and then, I would look at it with fondness and gratitude. It is a constant reminder of my humble beginnings and that dreams do come true.
